City
Coolest

City on the west coast of Sweden. My first short trip in Sweden. The coolest city, I have ever visited

After moving to Linkoping, Sweden in May 2023, I had the pleasure of visiting the enchanting city “Gothenburg.” From its stunning landmarks and culinary delights, this city had it all. Join me as I share my beautiful glimpse of the journey.

We had an official meet at Ericsson for our project on sixth-generation (6G) cellular networks. I was very much interested in looking forward to the Gothenburg meeting, because guyz, it was 6G, even 4G is not completely deployed yet. As researchers actively involved in the development of 6G, this was a golden opportunity to connect with leading experts and professors in the field. Ericsson, a renowned Swedish multinational networking and telecommunications company, holds a special place in my heart ever since my childhood when I knew them through the iconic mobile brand “Sony Ericsson.” Back then, Ericsson introduced a series of cool keypad mobile phones, which were a big deal as touchscreens hadn’t yet hit the market. Those phones operated on the GSM network (2G) at the time. Fast forward two decades, and here we are, deeply immersed in 6G research. While Ericsson may no longer be developing mobile phones, it continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of telecommunication systems, from 2G all the way to 6G. Let me give you a glimpse of Ericsson’s impressive setup: their well-developed building is located on the picturesque west coast of Gothenburg, with the added bonus of being situated near the sea. Imagine the breathtaking view of cruises sailing to Finland or Denmark as you work by the seaside—it’s an awe-inspiring experience.

The meeting went very well, but let’s set that aside for a moment. One of the highlights of the trip was the opportunity to discover the enchanting city of Gothenburg. In my opinion, it’s the epitome of cool and easily ranks as one of the most vibrant cities in Sweden. Picture this: it boasts an incredible shopping scene, straight out of a Hollywood movie, with luxurious malls and boutiques galore. I also had the chance to visit the picturesque harbor and witness the unique sight of trains running on the roads. To top it all off, we stayed at the magnificent 5-star hotel “Eggers,” which added a touch of luxury to our experience.

However, being a vegetarian outside India is a challenge when it comes to food options. As a vegetarian, I had to make up with salads consisting of cucumber, cabbage, tomatoes, and corn. To my surprise, boiled potatoes were a common part of the meals, although they are not commonly consumed in India. Personally, I found the taste to be rather bland and unappetizing, but perhaps you might have a different opinion if you give them a try. On the other hand, non-vegetarians had a wider range of choices, including chicken, seafood, and pork. I noticed that pork sauce was served alongside chowmein during lunch, which was suitable to me. Consequently, I had to rely heavily on the salads. It’s worth mentioning that beer and wine were commonly enjoyed with both lunch and dinner in this setting.

We also had a delightful dinner party hosted by the officials at the renowned, “River Restaurant on the Pier.” This fine dining establishment is situated in a captivating location, nestled between the tranquil sea waters and the bustling Gothenburg harbor. It is well said, when you step outside your place you get different varieties of people with distinct culinary preferences. We had the pleasure of dining with people from various nations, including Sweden, Belgium, Germany, China, India, and Vietnam. Each person had their unique tastes and preferences. Some indulged in prawns, while others savored beef, raw fish, or cooked fish. Meanwhile, I found myself content with my simple meal of boiled potatoes and salads. To accompany the delectable dishes, we were served a delightful African wine called “Delaire.” The ambiance of the restaurant exuded an air of sophistication and regality, adding to the overall dining experience.

There were many more memorable moments with my colleagues and professor in the hotel.

Visiting Gothenburg was a complete package of work and explore that exceeded my expectations. Its delicious cuisine, vibrant natural beauty all combined to create a immense experience. I returned home with a deep desire to share my memories with others.
