An Excursion of Kayaking in Linköping, Sweden

#swedendiaries

Sweden’s summer is a season of extended daylight, warm temperatures, and a lively atmosphere. It’s a time for outdoor activities, festivals, and enjoying the stunning natural beauty around here. Out of all the things, I choose to be in the waters through kayaking.

Kayaking is a water-based recreational activity that involves using a small, narrow boat known as a kayak to navigate through various water bodies, such as rivers, lakes, oceans, and even whitewater rapids. Kayaks are typically propelled using a double-bladed paddle. The activity can range from leisurely paddling on calm waters to more challenging pursuits like whitewater kayaking and sea kayaking. Kayaking can be done on a variety of water bodies, each offering a unique experience. What is choose was what closer to me. Calm and chilled waters “Kinda Canal.” The Kinda Canal is an artificial canal that was constructed in the 19th century to connect Lake Roxen to Lake Åsunden, providing a navigable route for boats and barges. It offers a scenic route through the picturesque Swedish countryside, passing through forests, farmlands, and charming villages.

As the golden sun began its ascent over the tranquil lake, casting a shimmering dance of light across the water’s surface, I embarked on a kayaking journey that promised to be a serene escape into nature’s embrace. Gently pushing my kayak into the stillness of the water, I felt an immediate sense of calm envelop me. The lake stretched out before me like a mirror, mirroring the surrounding trees and clear blue sky above. The air was crisp and clean, carrying with it the faint aroma of pine and wildflowers.

With a soft dip of my paddle, I set off, the water yielding effortlessly to my strokes. The kayak glided silently. It was as if I had become one with the water, a part of the tranquil rhythm of the lake. As I ventured farther, the only sounds that accompanied me were the distant calls of birds and the gentle lapping of water against the kayak’s hull. A pair of swans gracefully glided by, their reflections merging flawlessly with the water’s mirror-like surface. In their presence, I felt like an unobtrusive observer in a world untouched by time. Here, time seemed to stand still, and the worries of everyday life melted away.

I drifted to a very calm place, allowing myself to pause and take in the breathtaking expanse around me. Closing my eyes, I basked in the serenity that surrounded me. The soft whispers of the breeze, the gentle lull of the water, and the symphony of nature’s sounds lulled me into a meditative state.

Time drifted by unnoticed, I reluctantly turned my kayak back toward the shore. The journey had been a tranquil and introspective experience, a reminder of the beauty that exists when we take a moment to embrace the calm and connect with the world around us. With a contented heart and a renewed sense of tranquility, I paddled back to the shore, my kayak gliding smoothly through the water, leaving behind a trail of memories etched in the gentle ripples of the lake.

In Linköping, the price for kayaking is quite nominal with 350 SEK per 2 hours for 1 person, and 500 SEK per 2 hours for two persons. Hope you also try it to gain experience and peace.
